How To Rename an Index On SQL Server 2012 Using Management Studio

Renaming an index means it replaces the current index name with the new name that you provide. Here is the steps to rename an index by using the Table Designer.

Step 1: Connect to server through SQL Server Management Studio.

Step 2: In Object Explorer, click the plus sign to expand the database that contains the table on which you want to rename an index.

Step 3: Click the plus sign of Tables folder to expand.

Step 4: Right-click the table on which you want to rename an index and select Design.

Step 5: On the Table Designer menu, click Indexes/Keys.

Step 6: Now you have to select the index you want to rename in the Selected Primary or Unique Key or Index text box.

Step 7: In the grid, click Name and type a new name into the text box and click close

Step 8: On the File menu, click Save Table Name.

Step 9: Now refresh and check indexes are successfully updated with the new name or not?
