Sync With Backup Option at Publisher and Distributor In Transactional Replication

If you are planning for a disaster recovery then you have to turn ON the sync with backup option at publisher or distributor or on both depend on the requirements of your environment.

Sync With Backup Option at the Distributor

If you turn this option ON in the distribution database so the transaction log of the publicstion database does not get truncated until they have been backed up in the distribution database.

So the distribution database can be restored to the last backup and if there any transactions which are missing then they get transferred from publication database to the distribution database without affecting the replication.

The transaction of the transaction log in the publication database has to wait until the transactions in the distribution database has been backed up.

Sync With Backup Option at the Publisher

If you turn this option ON in the publication database then the transactions are not delivered to the distribution database until they are backed up at the publication database.

So that the last publication database backup can be restored at the publisher without any mismatch of transactions with the distribution database.

The distribution database will not receive any transactions until they have been backed up at the publisher.
